Ancaster Sport Report
Rugby
If you reside in Ancaster Hall or ever have done you are eligible to play rugby for the hall. Once a week you can turn up to Grove Farm and play with your fellow students in the Inter Mural league or The IMS Cup. The captain this year is James Payne, a second year at Nottingham and so far he has led a team consisting of freshers and older players to an unbeaten run. We are top of our league and in the semi final of the cup. The top two teams in the league go forth to compete with Loughborough, representing the university on the pitch. Hall rugby offers a slightly different approach to playing for the university in that there is little or no training and you will not be dropped from the side for missing a game. Being a regular player is its own reward, not only playing every week but also forming close bonds with other Ancastrians.
Football
Again if you live in or ever have lived in Ancaster Hall you are able to play a bit of footy for us. The football team is also in the Inter Mural league and as an Ancaster football player you will compete against all the other halls. This year there is a joint captaincy of George Keating and Matthew Beaver. Unfortunately this season the lads have not faired as well but with their new kits here things are looking up. They train once a week on the astro and play about once a week as well. Yet again it’s a great way to meet other Ancaster people and play some football.Basketball
As an Ancastrian you can also shoot some hoops for your hall. The team plays in a really successful and competitive inter mural league which also contains other teams as well as all the halls. This year the Captain is Johnny Kamolvisit. Ancaster has struggled this year to turn defeat into victory but the team has high hopes of the 1 day tournament coming up next term.
