JCR!
President

Sally Johnston
I'm Sally and I'm the JCR President. As well as generally overseeing and organising the rest of the committee I
also have some more specific things to do. For Ancaster I organise post-formal entertainment, quiz nights, socials like
the river cruise and the Christmas party. In store for the rest of the year is a St Patrick's Day party, Freshers' Ball and lots
of other things to keep ypu busy after exams in the summer. I also represent Ancaster to the rest of the University and do
my best to present your views at President's Committee and Union Council, where we vote on important University issues
like whether or not we should be affiliated with the NUS. If there is ever something you feel strongly bout at university, from
food to contact time with tutors, I am here to present your views to people who can really make a difference!
For people who are interested in being the JCR President or having any role on the Committee it is hard work but very
rewarding and there are lots of perks. This year I got to go to all the Week One parties with the reps with VIP status in the
clubs, I attend all Ancaster formals and get invited to many other food and drink type evening's across campus (great when
you have almost run out of food at home...), we all have very fetching royal blue t-shirts and of course any JCR role looks
great on your CV and makes you stand out against your peers!
JCR hustings will be held in the third term, do e-mail me with any queries if you're thinking of applying for any role.
Vice President
Liam McGivern
Hi I'm Liam, I was social sec last year and this year I am vice-pres. I sort out a lot of formal and party stuff, as well
as anything else that no one wants to do. I study economics and I don't know what else to say so if you need anything feel
free to contact me.
General Secretary
Will Yeates
I produce accurate minutes of JCR Committee meetings, keep a minute "book" containing records of all JCR Committee
meetings and make this available to all JCR members on request. I am also responsible for the production of
letters and documents on the JCR's behalf, and upon request by the JCR Committee members.
Sports Secretary

Alec Grieve
As Sports Secretary my job is make sure all the various Ancaster Hall sporting activities that you guys get up to are running
smoothly. I work with my colleague Katie Young and the in-hall sports secretary Dave Marcus. Specifically I look after the
Inter mural football and rugby and from week to week I get in touch with the team captains and help get a team out as well as
notifying them about fixtures against all the other Halls. I also helped to organise the Sports Social which was a great night
out, I took all the footballers and rugby players out for a meal and then some amazing raving.
Assistant Social Secretary

Niall Farmer
Assistant Social Secretary is an imperative role in the JCR. I support James Payne as a second in command and add
my own creative aspect to the creation of events in the hall and the general smooth running of the hall's social side. An
example of this is our current preparations for our St Patrick's Day Party, we are budgeting the event and arranging the food,
drink and decorations.
Female Sports Secretary

Katie Young
As the girl half of the Sports Sec I am in charge of the netball and hockey teams, choosing the second year captains and
sorting out fixtures with the inter-mural sports reps. I arrange the team socials which have included an Ann Summers party -
a bit of a netball tradition and also sort out purchasing the kit for hockey and netball. My fellow Sports Secs and I are planning
an old-school style sports day for the summer term (egg and spoon race compulsory) which is bound to be absolute carnage
and will be a fun way to get everyone in hall involved even if they haven't chosen to join one of the teams this year.
Communications Rep
Harriet Hicks
As communications rep it is my job to update and maintain the Ancaster Hall website. This year has seen a completely new
website full of all Ancaster information and photos of all the many events. It is my job to make sure all the information on the
website is up-to-date and correct. I hope you enjoy the site and find it easy to use!
Welfare Rep
Charlotte Roe
My role on the JCR is to be available to talk confidentially to any student in the hall who is unhappy or concerned
with any aspect of university life - be it financial, work-related or personal. I am also equipped to suggest
organisations and services that a student may wish to contact for further support. Additionally my position also
involves ensuring that events run by the JCR do not discriminate against any hall members, and that students of
any gender, race, religion and physical ability can take part in organised JCR activities.
Information about the other JCR positions coming soon….
